「役割の固定化と一元化」の翻訳鈴木孝夫のエッセー「役割の固定化と一元化」、 （『ことばと文化』 、岩波書店、1973年）は結構気に入れました。 日本の文化、日本人の関係、日本語の構造に触れるので、内容が少し古くても、日本語学生の私にとって興味深いです。 例えば、自分を「私」というか「僕」というかの言語問題の背景も説明して、もっと早く読んだら良かったと思わざるをえません。 そのわけで、日本語の初級者に分かりやすくするため、原文に振り仮名をかけて、英語の直訳を備えました。役に立てれば幸いです。

"Role Definition and Unification" Translation
I've become quite taken with Suzuki Takao's essay, "Role Definition and Unification" (Language and Culture, Iwanami Books, 1973). Even though the content is a little old, since the essay touches on Japanese culture, relationships, and the structure of the language, it is especially interesting to me as a Japanese language student. For example, the essay explains the background of the linguistic problem of whether to call oneself watashi or boku, which I can't help but wish I had read sooner. As such, in order to make it easy to understand for beginning learners, I've annotated the original text with furigana and provided direct English translations. I hope someone finds these useful.
I've since become aware that there is an English translation of the entire book by the author himself, called Words in Context. I have not read it, but I expect the author's translation conveys his thoughts better than my translation could.
